Could you expand on your mission and the work related to sustainable development?The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) was established in 1885. The central belief is that we consider that public transport and sustainable mobility are a way to enhance the well-being of people, the quality of life in cities, and the economy of our cities.
Could you tell us more about the type of work the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) is doing for Bahrain? The Supreme Council for Women was established 21 years ago as a consultative institution to the state in all matters related to women; proposing new policies and recommendations to existing legislations and laws in support of women and their families.
Could you explain how you're training your employees toward green action?Most of our employees are from the local village where Paradis Plage is located. All these people have grown up with sustainability as their lifestyle due to the limited access to resources in the village.

Sustainable progress in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is the integrated economic approach by governments and companies to have a positive impact on human rights and the environment while unlocking inclusive growth. The speed of this transition is partially driven by changing standards across global supply chains and trade networks.
The main challenge will be the one that all powers in the world are facing at the moment: a global disorder where economics and trade have become instruments for competition. For me, there are two game-changers: climate change and the pandemic, which have forced the various trade-economic powers and power relations into a more self-centred development and a competition between countries different to the one that came out from the following years after WW2 with liberal trade.
The private sector, let that be in Africa or globally speaking, has the appetite and means to represent the engine of Africa’s sustainable economic development. Our aim is to create an enabling environment for scaling up renewable energy investments in Africa to accelerate a just and inclusive energy transition on the continent.
Our number one task is to help our members adopt the Sustainable finance disclosure regulation. It’s about making sure that when a fund manager discloses ESG credentials of that fund, the ESG standards involved are actually mentioned.
In the past few years, Europe experienced waves of illegal migration that created a push-back sentiment towards people from the Middle East and Africa. Moreover, the Covid crisis enhanced this mistrust sentiment within the internal borders of the E.U.

The digital sector is trying to figure out and map out their larger ecosystem, questioning how robust our digital infrastructures are to respond to the shocks that come with a post-pandemic world. Last summer, we hosted a webinar that looked at digital infrastructure resilience amidst rising temperatures against the backdrop of the IPCC AR6 publication. We had speakers from the European Commission, the UK Met Office, and a Global Enabling Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) Member Company presenting how their technologies supported natural disaster recovery efforts in lighting speed.
